Lindy's Sewing Emergency! Clinic plus Tango Skirt Sew-Along, for February 2016
Post-workshop update: Sew-along blog posts are now available at our brand-new blog, SewColormusing! (Note that you don't have to sign up on Wordpress to follow the blog; click on the Follow SewCM button to receive posts via e-mail.)
After our first popular Sewing Emergency! Clinic, we've decided to offer it again, and will most likely be repeating it once every month (or so) in the future. This is a super-helpful workshop, because you bring in your own sewing project, whether it's a dress, curtains, lingerie, alterations, or repairs, and Lindy will talk you through curing whatever's ailing it!
BONUS: This event will also get you started on a beautiful skirt project that we'll all be working on (and this is not just for tango dancers!). You'll choose either a wrap skirt (that could be made reversible) or an elastic-waist skirt with options like asymmetrical hemlines and additional layers. (Please note that if you'd rather not participate in this skirt project, it's not required.)
When & where: Saturday, February 20, 2016, 1:00-4:00 p.m. We'll be meeting at a private home in SW Portland; the address will be e-mailed to you as soon as we receive your payment.
Please note that we only have space for 5 participants (plus Lindy)— pre-pay here to reserve your spot today!
Sample materials list for wrap skirt (McCall's 5430), based on size 10*:
2 3/8 yds./45"-wide fabric (1 7/8 yds./60"), 2 5/8" buttons, 1/2 yd. 22"-wide fusible interfacing; several large sheets of tissue paper (or pattern-drafting paper).
*The maximum fabric required is 2 3/4 yds./45"-wide fabric (2 yds./60"). You'll need to double the fabric amount if you'd like to make your skirt reversible.
Sample materials list for multi-layer skirt (Vogue 8981), based on View A, size M*:
1 1/2 yds./45"-wide fabric (1 yd./60") + contrast layer: 1 3/4 yds./45" (1 1/2/60"), 1 yd. lining fabric (45"/60"), 1 1/4 yds. 1 1/4"-wide elastic; several large sheets of tissue paper (or pattern-drafting paper).
*The maximum fabric required is 3 1/4 yds./45"-wide fabric (3 1/8 yds./60"), for View B (both layers in same fabric).
Tip: It's a great idea to check out these patterns ahead of time; you can look at the details of each variation, fabric quantities for all sizes, and look at the schematic drawings— these often tell you much more about the garment than the fashion illustrations.
A note about the patterns: You're welcome to purchase your own copy of these patterns; the Vogue pattern is listed online as being out of print, but it's possible you could find it at a local fabric store. We'll provide both patterns in multiple sizes, and you can trace your size onto tissue or pattern paper— hence this item in the materials list.
Need help? Please add a note when you purchase this workshop, if you'd like help determining your size and/or fabric requirements. Sewing pattern sizes are often quite different from RTW sizing!
